FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Nope – if you have an urge to fish, eat, or just hang out, come on down. Unless you are a group of 8 or more then we do definitely require advanced bookings, please just call us to book and if you have a special event please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
Nothing! We will provide you with all your fishing equipment – a rod, bait and catch net. Since fishing is an outdoor activity we do recommend sunscreen in summer, and warm clothes in winter.
Sorry, but no. We just can’t risk any unwanted organisms entering our eco-system.
Just enjoy it! When you arrive, we will explain everything from how to use the equipment to what to do when you catch your first fish. The team are always on hand to help out. Note that we take no responsibility for any fishing addiction which develops as a result of the Hook experience.
You’ll bring it to our fish + fillet station where we weigh your fish. You can then choose if you want to eat it straight away or take it away with you. You can also choose if you want smoked, sashimi, or filleted.
Most of the fish are 1 – 1.5kg in the main ‘Hound’s Hollow’ lake, perfect for any angler. Like all the best fishing locations we also have a not so secret, secret spot where you can catch the big one with our ‘Premium guided fishing experience’ this lake is filled with large Chinook 2.5-3.5kg our team will teach you the fishing techniques and guide you through our top secret lures.
No! We’re not trying to be the fun police, but if you throw the fish back it’s going to get stressed and it may even die unnecessarily. We don’t want that to happen, and we’re sure you don’t either.
NO!! And…YES!! Hook is a place to be free and have fun. But give us a bit of a hand on the old Health and Safety front please – your children are your responsibility. We’ve done everything we can to make Hook fun and safe but young children must be supervised near the water and when fishing. For those particularly adventurous little darlings we can even lend you a lifejacket which has a leash attached to the back so that you can fully relax knowing they’re not going to take themselves off for an impromptu swim.
Well that’s strange, but it’s OK, we won’t judge you (much). Luckily you don’t need to fish to enjoy Hook. We have a licenced eatery, large open spaces for the kids to explore and a growing collection of outdoor games. We’re close to some of the best walking and biking tracks in the area so you can stop in for a coffee as you explore Wanaka by foot or bike.
Yup – we have disabled parking, toilets and the fishing lakes have plenty of room to move around.
Rover’s can come but they will have to stay in our special doggie lounge tied up under the shade.
We have free WiFi for all our visitors. Ask the team for details.
Oops, how did that slip in? Seriously though, it’s fishing – it’s fun, just do it!
